It’s Not Just About The Money!
Speak to a collection of people who call themselves full-time internet marketers and you’ll likely find a large proportion of them are actually earning *less* than they would do working at a full time job for someone else.
So you have to wonder - of that’s the case, why do it?
The short answer is that when you start on this journey we know as internet markketing you suddenly discover that there are far more benefits than just money alone.
Time
Time is one of the biggest factors for many people - myself included. Sure, sometimes I’ll work more than I would at a fulltime job, but at others I’ll do virtually nothing.
As an internet entrepreneur you have far more freedom when the sun comes out to just go out for the day and enjoy yourself. I for one skew my work schedule, planning months in advance so I do the vast majority of it in the col, wet winter months and take a far more laid back attitude when summer (if we get one here in the UK!) finally rolls around.
You also have the ability to take off and travel for long periods of time if you like, or donate chunks of your time to a charity that really matters ot you.
Freedom
If I wake up and it’s warm and sunny I can suddenly decide on the spur of the moment to go for a bike ride in the forest and to do some work later on in the day. I simply wouldn’t have that level of freedom in a typical job. Can you imagine ringing up your boss and telling him or her that you won’t be in today because you fancy going out with your partner in the sun?!
No Boss
The simpel fact of not having a boss can be enough for some people. The idea of getting a job and having someone else tell me what to do, to control me, and all the office politics that comes with it can be a depressing thought.
Efficiency
When I had a job, there were times when I just wasn’t “in the mood” for work. Fridays could be a good example, or the last few days before you head off on a vacation. Yet I was still expected to be in work. There I would mope around trying my best to get enthralled and achieve things but frankly I;d waste vast amounts of time. Now if I’m not in the mood to work - I simply don’t do it. When I am “in the zone” I can go for 12 hours or more because I love it and have the energy. Other times I’ll do nothing for hours, even days at a time.
No More Suits!
Firstly - an admission. In contrast to all the best “work at home sales letter I don’t work at home in my underwear - or even my pyjamas. But I do work in a t-shirt and shorts on a regular basis. I hated the whole “dressing up” thing - spending huge amounts of money on suits, then even more getting them dry cleaned all the time and always feeling awkward and uncomfortable. Now I work in what I like, and I believe when we feel comfortable and at home with ourselves, we achieve more because we can focus on those goals fully.
I suppose when you boil all these points discussed it comes down to one major theme - many people, including myself, are willing to make the compromise of accepting less money in exchange for our personal freedom. Now that I’ve really tasted how sweet freedom is, it would take a hell of a lot to get me back into a job in an office. Tell me - how much do you need to earn to buy your freedom, and how far away from that goal are you?
